Supports research and development investigation of technology and application(s) that involve communication devices (IIoT) used in transportation telematics.  Transportation telematics would be defined as a device that can sense a variable such as temperature/cargo/door status, and send the data back using a RF, Bluetooth 5, NFC or RFID to a collecting device.  The research and investigation would include device firmware code, software code and compatible hardware to operate in a heavy-duty environment.   The device design would require using a IEEE 802 communication protocol for the sensory device then broadcasting to a collecting data device that has cellular functionality.

In addition, this position would require developing statement of works that are used to define the requirements of the application for internal investigation or third-party contractors.  This person would be used in an advisory and oversite capacity when dealing with third parties.

Develops statement of work for the application that would involve sensory device revisions or new applications.  Works with telematics Program Manager for clear definition of the application.

Collaborates with the hardware design engineers to incorporate all components required for data and messaging and to ensure efficient data extraction and transmission.  All devices will operate in a heavy-duty transportation environment.

Writes firmware source code to extract the data from the sensory device in format that is readable to the receiving collecting master control unit.

Works with the user interface code writers to develop messaging data from the sensory device to the user interface in a format that allows parsed data to be converted into a customer facing display (widget).

Develops an alpha and beta testing plan for the device firmware.  Constructs a stress testing plan for the firmware during the validation testing.
